Enough is ENOUGH!
Okay, here's the deal...
I am going to be completely up front and honest with whomever takes the time to read this blog. I SERIOUSLY DOUBT THERE IS ANYONE WHO REALLY READS THIS THING, but here goes...
I am an Cyber Jock. I have an Internet Radio Station. You can listen to my station at the following address http://www.cactusbeachradio.net.
I confess! I download music! Aaaaand YES, I play the tunes I DL on my Internet Radio Station!!!
Holy shit in a box people! The music industry HAS gone way way way off the deep end these days!
Those goddamn fucking artists should feel EXTREAMLY FUCKING LUCKY that some people DO put their ENTIRE album on their computer and 10-to-1 they have sort of program on their computer that either shares, or maybe even streams over the net.
I've been into music for years and I know some (not all) of the workings that go on when it comes to the music industry.
When artists lay down a "record", it takes a good 2-3 months to get the songs recorded. So, after they record all the songs, their "producers" pick and choose what is put on the "record" and what is not.
Then, after sending it to the label (IE Sony Records, BMI, ect..) the label decides when to "release" the album.
Also, the label decides what song/s are/is released as, say a "single".
If the "single" takes off, then they start to release more songs to the radio stations and depending on who, what, when, and where all the popularity comes from.... Then the entire record is released.
Take the newest Country Band, "Sugarland". I had heard pieces of their hit single "Baby Girl". So what did I do? I went online and DLed it. I liked what I heard and bought the album from a store. I listened to the rest of the CD and I liked what I heard and put the entire album on my computer and online play list. So, actually if you look at it from one perspective; I'm GIVING FREE PUBLICITY to Sugarland by playing songs that ARE NOT played on regular FM or XM radio.
What I'm saying is, instead of bitching and moaning about copyrights and royalties, music labels should hunt down internet radio stations (such as myself) and offer to pay them (us) to play songs.
It's really stupid and actually looks bad for the artists when all they do is piss and moan about royalties when in reality they are getting kick-backs from every CD they sell at a store.
If I had a band, or was a singer for any given genre I would have it in my contract to have "my people" hunt down, find, and offer Cyber Jocks some extra spending cash to demo my songs on their internet radio station.
Screw FYE, Wal Mart, Sam Goody, ect...! We are in the fucking 21'st century. Internet Radio IS the next big thing! If the big time labels don't get their heads out from inside their asses and realize just how big of a chance to promote new artists is.... Then there is no hope for REAL, RAW, and TRUE talents ever to be found.
I'm done... Please leave a comment. I want to know how you, the reader, feels about this current day on-going debacle.
Thanks for reading,
